Abstract
Since the beginning of the COVID pandemic, e-learning has become a central topic. One of the most popular areas of further education is learning foreign languages. In the age of the smartphone, this usually takes place through the use of language learning apps such as Duolingo and Co… The advantages here lie in the use of gamification aspects to additionally motivate the user. In this context, the use of AR features is an underused opportunity.
This works opens with a competitor analysis of existing learning apps. The goal of this analysis is to discover possible starting points for expanding them with AR-features. Subsequently, a design concept for a language learning app is developed, which specifies the AR functions used. The use of gamification plays an important role here. The design concept will be used to evaluate the extent to which AR support or negatively influences the learning process.
